The Bridge was created to “bridge” the gap between the elementary ages and the demands of high school by preparing students for the rigors of note taking, meeting deadlines, testing, labs, and working with peers. What classes are offered? We are offering the following this year: Plant and Animal Science, Writing, Literature Exploration, Introduction to Spanish, 6th and 7th grade math, pre-algebra, World Geography, Music and Drama. Please see our course description download below. We rotate our classes on a 3 year schedule. For example, the writing class assignments, science and history change each year so they don’t repeat over a 3 year period. Do I have to sign up for all the classes? No, you just pick and choose which classes that you would like for your student to take. Most students take only one or two classes. Usually it is the subject that you don’t feel comfortable teaching. The teacher acts as your assistant in teaching a subject/s that you would like to have help with. The parent and student are responsible for making sure the student does the work at home. The teacher presents the lessons and grades the student in an objective manner. Homework assignments are emailed to the home so the parent is fully informed. This will transition your student into being independently accountable for their work. Do you separate the students by grade level? No, grades 6 through 8 are all in the same class. The level of work expected from each student depends on their grade level. For example, in writing, a 6th grade research paper may be 4 pages while an 8th grade research paper may be 8 pages. What time are classes and do students stay the entire time? Classes typically run from 9-12:30 so that those interested in participating in Voyagers can enjoy both co-ops. Your student only needs to come during their class time not the whole day. If you need to drop them off early or have them stay late, they are welcome to stay in study hall when they don’t have class. How do I sign them up?
If you would like to establish a payment plan to pay for your student's classes, you must make an appointment to meet with the treasurer, Kelley Mansfield. Kelley will have appointments available at Round Up. Sign up at the Eluminatus table for a time to meet with her. Meetings will last approximately 15 minutes. If you won't be able to attend a meeting at Round Up, please contact Kelley at kelleymansfield@gmail.com to find out what dates she will be holding meetings. Make checks payable to Eagle’s Nest.
