Explorers

Motto:  “When we learn what we love, we love learning.”

What: The Explorers Co-op is a K-12 unit study based homeschool enrichment program within the Eagle’s Nest Christian Home Educators’ Association.

Who:  Any Eagle’s Nest family may register.  Classes are open to K-12, with childcare/classes for infants, toddlers and pre-k siblings.

When:  We will meet three times a year, once a week for 6 weeks, for about 4 hours per day.

Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. as follows:

  • Our fall unit study will be about countries and cultures and will begin in October.
  • Our winter unit study will be about Medieval times and will begin in January.
  • Our spring unit study will be about oceans and will begin in March.

Where:     Royal Baptist Church

        70 Mayo Royal Industrial Blvd
        Newnan, GA 30263

How much:  $30/Annual Family Fee. Class fees are in the range of $5-$20 per unit study to cover the cost of supplies for each class

Goals:  We wish to honor God in an atmosphere of love, joy, friendship and learning for the children and the Moms (Dads welcome, too, of course!).  In addition, Explorers will especially strive to be a place of encouragement for new homeschoolers and homeschoolers new to the area.

Format:  The children will be divided up into class divisions or “Explorers Teams.”

Team Ages
Babies 0-1
Toddlers 2
Marco Polo 3-4
Columbus 5-6
Magellan 7-8
Cortes 9-10
Lewis & Clark 11-12
Admiral Byrd 13+

All students K-12 will study the same unit, but at different levels.  The Babies and Toddlers will be cared for in a nursery setting.  Older toddlers and pre-schoolers will have games, activities and snacks provided for them.  The Pre-k 3-4s will have age-appropriate lessons, but they will not necessarily relate to the unit study.

Subject coordinators will oversee each of the following subjects:

History/Geography

Literature/Writing

Science

Art/Hands-on Projects

The moms of the students will have the opportunity to teach and assist in the classes or assist with the pre-k classes.  When not needed in a classroom, moms will participate in “moms classes” which will include Bible studies, guest speakers, and learning opportunities.

Schedule:
9:45 - 10:00 Arrival time
10:15 - 10:40 Assembly & Announcements
10:45 - 11:40 First block of unit study classes
11:45 - 12:10 Lunch
12:15 - 1:10 Second block of unit study classes

We will end each unit study with a finale celebration.
