AP Creative Artists Taught by April Parker and Kelly Bruno for Eagle's Nest “Creative Artists”
is a fun way to learn foundational art principles and concepts. We believe
drawing is something everyone can learn just like everyone can learn to play an
instrument. Learning to draw is the foundation of everything we will be doing.
However, drawing can take many different forms. We tell students that painting
is just drawing with a brush. In our experience students often get bored or
overwhelmed with a drawing lesson and no creative direction in how to apply what
they have learned. We call this class “Creative Artists” because we try to
allow students “creative” ways to display their learning process. Throughout the year we will complete hands-on projects that revolve around lessons we are learning each week. Some of the creative ways we will display our art is through two different 11x14 canvas paintings on famous landmarks and cityscapes (one in Oct.& the other in Jan.) and we will be transforming wooden trays into acrylic murals (Apr.or May). These projects are NOT “arts & crafts” they are students displaying their drawing progress on dimensional forms. These projects are dispersed among foundational lessons each week using a variety of mediums (colored-pencil, pen, oil pastel, watercolor, and acrylic, shading tools). Some of the drawing concepts that will be covered are form drawing (in which students learn to train their eye to the basic shapes and lines), 2 & 3 dimensional drawing, shading techniques, drawing still-life, landscapes and portrait drawing. Throughout the year we will also complete two different paintings on 9x12 matte boards (a Mother’s Day painting and a Christmas mural). There is a strong focus to use art history as a foundation. The class will
normally be held the 1st and 3rd Thursday’s of the month
(there are some months when that is not the case due to holidays) at To take this class you must be enrolled in Eagle’s Nest.
