Elementary Field Trips

2010-2011 Elementary Field Trips

September Friday, September 10th at The Dog Park in Peachtree City at 10am, located at the McIntosh Trail Recreation Complex.  We will learn about dog behavior and their relationship to humans.  You may bring your dog if you have one.  Cost is $1 per family and you can pay when you get there.  There is a max of 50 people who may attend.  Deadline to sign-up is August 28th .

October Friday, October 8th at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth is where we’re going this month.  Tour guides will lead us through each of the exhibits.  All programs include a hands-on experience with artifacts. Programs that are held at the museum include a train ride and program-specific tour that will last about two hours.  All programs are $7 per student.  Time TBA.

November:  Friday, November 12th- Warm Springs National Fish Hatchery; cost is free. This activity is for pre-k and up. The children will be taught about fish,
aquatic adaptations, healthy habitats, Water webs, wetlands, creeks, and much more!  Make sure to bring water shoes and a towel. There will be a
walk in the creek and a visit with an alligator!!  Also, you can bring your lunch for a picnic.  Time TBA.

December:  No field trip this month.

January Guided tour of the Georgia capitol in Atlanta. For kids second grade and up.  Tour is free.  Date and time TBA.

February Tuesday, February 22nd will be at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta. You can arrive as early as 12 noon for free play until 2pm.  At that time and until 3pm there is a learning lab.  When the learning lab is complete, the kids can have more free play until 4pm.  What fun!!!  The home school theme for this day is Timbuktu!  Kids from pre-school to 5th grade may attend the learning lab.  Adults and children 2yrs and under are free.  Members of the museum will be charged $4 and non-members $8.  Sign-up deadline is January 21st, at which time payment will also be due.  Parking is available at a special rate of $5 per car across the street from the museum at the American Cancer Society.

March On March 25th, we will visit the Senoia Buggy Museum.  We need to arrive there by 10 am.  Cost is $1 per child.  The museum is full of items from Senoia's past. There are old cars and buggies, including a Model T and Model A, Senoia's first "gas station," an antique tractor, doctors' tools, old sewing machines, and a wide array of Coca-Cola memorabilia.   Weather permitting; we might even go to the Senoia Park.  Deadline to sign up is February 25th.

April:   Homeschoolers!!  Start your engines!!!  This month we are going to the Atlanta Motor Speedway.  Official track tours include a brief track history, a visit to Petty Garden, a sneak peek at the garages and Victory Lane, and two laps in the Speedway van around the same 1.54-mile track that stars like Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. race on.  Tours are just $5 for adults and $2 for children. Ages 6 and under are free. Time TBA.

May Friday, May 13th at 10:30, we will be visiting Country Gardens Farm and Nursery in Newnan.  The kids will have a true, down home, farm experience.  They will plant something to bring home, and they will visit with the farm animals.  This will also include a tour of the greenhouse.  Deadline to sign up is April 29th

Remember that all field trips will be announced one month prior to trip on the Eagle’s Nest Yahoo Group.  Make sure that you are signed up and receive the emails from this group.  There will be a deadline for each fieldtrip, and you will not be able to sign up after that deadline. 

There are no refunds for fieldtrips. 

You must be an Eagle’s Nest member to participate in the field trips.

Behavior and timeliness is very important.  You are representing Eagle’s Nest, homeschooling, and your families.
